Transforming indoor spaces with greenery for a more welcoming and aesthetic environment.
Equipped with a brief of incorporating greenery and softening the basement and receptionย areas of The Society Building's office, we set to work on a transformative interior plantingย scheme. To learn more about how we successfully enhanced these indoor spaces throughย strategic planning, plant selection and meticulous execution read our case study below.
The Client: The Society Building
The Location: Fitzrovia, London
The Society Buildingย came to us with a clear vision for their basement and reception areas.ย They wanted to incorporate greenery to soften these spaces, enhance the overall aesthetic andย create a welcoming atmosphere.ย The goal was to integrate a variety of plant species, bothย preserved and live planting, that would bring texture, colour and a sense of tranquility toย these indoor areas, transforming them into inviting environments for both employees andย visitors.
The timeline for the project was set at six weeks.ย This required precise coordination and efficient execution to meet the deadline without sacrificing the quality of the work.ย From the initial site visit to the final installation, every phase wasย meticulously planned to ensure smooth progress and timely completion.
To achieve the desired look, the following plant species were selected:
Asparagus โ known for its delicate, feathery foliage. Asparagus adds a light, airy texture toย the design. Its cascading nature makes it ideal for trailing over shelves and creating aย softening effect.
Eucalyptus Populus โ selected for its distinctive rounded leaves and silvery-green colour,ย which adds a unique texture and visual interest.
Asparagus Sprengeri โ similar to the asparagus plant, the Sprengeri variety offers dense,ย bushy growth that provides lush greenery. Its resilience and low maintenance nature makes itย perfect for indoor environments.
Amaranthus โ the star of the design, Amaranthus has long trailing stems with vibrant greenย foliage that creates a dramatic effect. Its trailing nature is perfect for adding vertical interestย and softening sharp lines.
Leather Fern โ this fern adds height and a rich, deep green colour to the arrangement. Itsย sturdy, broad leaves create a tropical feel that contrasts beautifully with the finer textures ofย the other plants.
Reindeer moss was strategically placed around the base of the displays to cover theย baseboards and maintain an authentic green appearance. Each plant was selected not only forย its aesthetic qualities but also for the benefits it brings to the indoor environment. Theย presence of greenery has been shown to reduce stress and improve mood, enhancingย employee well-being and productivity
The preserved species carefully chosen for this project.
Our collaboration with The Society Building began with an initial site visit to understand theย space and take accurate measurements. This visit was crucial for tailoring our proposal to theย specific requirements of the site. During this visit we assessed the space to understand itsย unique characteristics and challenges. This information was essential for developing aย proposal that met the clientโs needs and fit the space perfectly.
Based on the insights gained from the site visit, we crafted a comprehensive design proposal that focused on the clientโs desire for a trailing preserved planting scheme. The proposal included detailed plans for the placement of each plant species, ensuring that the final installation would be both aesthetically pleasing and functional. The proposal was designed to align with The Society Building's vision while incorporating our expertise in plant selection and interior landscape design.
Once the proposal was presented, we worked with The Society Building to approve it, allowing us to proceed with confidence. In addition to live plants, we strategically incorporated preserved plants into the design to ensure a consistently lush appearance, even in areas with limited natural light.
Preserved plants, treated through an eco-friendly preservation process, retain their fresh look and texture for years without needing light, water or regular upkeep. This makes them an excellent solution for spaces like basements or locations with minimal light. The design included planters placed on the shelving units, these planters were carefully integrated into the shelving to add greenery without taking up valuable space, integrating seamlessly with the existing dรฉcor. The planters were placed at various heights and locations, creating a layered effect that added depth and interest to the room.
The design successfully balanced aesthetics and functionality. By keeping the shelving units unobstructed, we ensured the space remained practical for daily use. The trailing elements and varying heights of the plants added visual interest without compromising usability. Introducing greenery significantly enhanced the atmosphere of the basement and reception areas and the variety of textures and shades of green created a dynamic and soothing environment, making these spaces more enjoyable for everyone who uses them.
This project exemplifies our ability to transform indoor spaces through strategic planting. By understanding the client's vision and working efficiently to execute it, we were able to create a planting scheme that not only enhanced the aesthetics of The Society Building's locations but also maintained functionality. The success of this project is a testament to the importance of careful planning, expert plant selection and precise execution in creating inviting and aesthetically pleasing environments.
